For our THPL journey to be positive it is important to have a healthy and strong body - it is as important as a healthy and strong mind. The challenge is that in today’s time starved world it can be difficult to achieve our fitness goals and build a strong body. So, in the spirit of doing better, I figured a reminder of some of the tried and true elements of a success plan would be a good way to start out the new year.
- Set your goals, write them down, tell others about them and then use your goal sheet to track your activities. The process of writing them down can help you achieve balance as the process makes you understand what you are committing to and allows you to see progress along the way.
- Decide on the outcome you are trying to achieve. Ask yourself, how do I want to feel? How do I want to look?' Do I want to get faster, stronger, or work on endurance or race pace? There is no right answer – just clarity on the goals so that it is possible to achieve them and feel good about them when you are done
- Be consistent, there really are a lot of distractions in life but as we know attitude is everything. It is important not to become a victim to your circumstances. Expect that there will be issues and adjust as needed. If you keep pressing forward eventually you get beyond the issue and get back on track.
- Have fun; there is no reason not to enjoy your fitness activities. Change them up, keep them interesting, treat them like vacation time. It is a blessing to be able to work on the body and improve it, appreciate it and celebrate it along the way and great things will come of it.
