Riding in the Rain

The mind is so powerful and yet we often do not use it to our advantage.  We can convince ourselves of just about anything and with this power you would think that we would create only great circumstance, great feelings and great opportunities.  And today I got to play with this idea just a bit.  I decided to drop off a rental car about 20 miles from home and to take my bike with me for the return trip.  On the way there the rain started and at first I was a bit put off – looking for the proverbial blue skies.  And then I realized that riding in the rain could be fun.  The temperature was just about perfect (75 degrees), the roads would be little travelled on a Sunday morning and I was going to be able to be outside, and not stuck on some bike trainer in the basement.  From this I got more and more excited about the prospect of riding in the rain, pelted by the drops, spray all around me and a bit of dirt for good measure sure to come.  And the weather delivered, the rain came, soft at first, then harder and harder.  The more the rain, the better I felt, and the more alive I was.  I rode with a smile and a great feeling hoping, in some funny way, that the ride would not end.  Alas, I took as long of a route as I could and I rolled into the garage drenched and excited.  Feeling great about this THPL moment I could only smile and think about the next opportunity to get out in the rain.  Bring it on Mother Nature – we love riding in the rain!
