Keep your eyes on the road

Funny thing how a metaphor can do a better job at explaining something than a long definition or other description.  It struck me today, as it took 2 hours to drive 17 miles from NY City to JFK airport that it is ever more challenging to keep your eyes on the road.  And this got me to thinking, if I am this distracted in a setting when focus matters, how am I doing in the rest of my life when the pressure is less or the ramifications less severe?  Do I maintain my focus?  Or do I let interrupts and beeps and messages and just about everything that happens around me distract me from my goals, my mission, my journey?  It might be that keeping our “eyes on the proverbial road” might be something worth focusing on.  How could we get to a better state of THPL if all we do is bounce from one thing to another?  Seems unlikely for sure.  So, the solution, we all know it, in our own context – stay focused, commit to finishing, turn to the important not the urgent…….and much, much more.  Yes, we need to challenge ourselves to keep our eyes on the road – the reward is great and the alternative really not that desirable.

Loving life, when focused on what matters…..
