Coffee anyone?

As I sit in Sydney Australia and order a coffee, in this instance “a long black” (versus a short black) it struck me that this beverage, while a truly global beverage, has a lot of “local” to it.  There is the Americano (for American GI’s in world war II who diluted espresso with water), the drip coffee (Dunkin or Starbucks?), the latte (milk just makes it better), the Turkish (who needs to filter the grinds), and of course Espresso (not a bean blend but a method of brewing) each of which has a significant element of culture  embodied in this omni-present (the second most traded commodity in the world), magical (that made goats dance) drink that seems always to be in waiting for us as we travel from anywhere to anywhere.  So maybe it is a worthwhile goal while on our THPL journey to try each of the local versions of coffee as we travel around.....whether near or far, for sure, it will be a learning experience and one that might just keep us coming back for more.

Loving life ….with coffee in hand!
