Other than a good spirit, the next most important element of the THPL life is the food that we eat. Every day we are given choices, what to eat, what not to eat. Some days we might find these choices harder to make than others. It could be what we are doing, where we are, the circumstance….all have an impact on what we choose to eat. But when we have control we should start with the right food themes in mind. One theme that almost always has merit is that the less the ingredients in the foods that we eat the better it is. There is the rule of seven for packaged foods – that is if there is less than seven ingredients it is worth buying and consuming. And then there is the rule of three. When we make foods for our own consumption can we make yummy food with only three ingredients? It seems a tall challenge but also a good one. It makes us focus on starting with great quality ingredients, treating them right, and then combining them with other simple and complimentary ingredients. We can get simple, great tasting, and with great nutrition – we just have to put a bit of effort into it. So, let’s challenge ourselves, at least once a week, to have a meal that has only things with three (or less) ingredients. It should be fun, yummy, and good for us. Looking forward to my next three ingredient meal…..indeed!
