The 30-day challenge

There is a strange sense of sadness, and at the same time relief, when we reach the end of a challenge.  We grow to enjoy the regularity of the challenge, the progress we can feel, and the ability to count on the challenge as a “righting” mechanism.  And while many of the 30-day challenges that we take on are physical, they can be in any category of our lives.  And so I come to the end of a 30-day fitness challenge, it required a lot of pullups, pushups, running, squats, burpees.  And while the physical part was hard, the mental part was even harder.  There were many a day when it seemed it would be easier and more logical to not do the challenge.  And yet, the real purpose of the challenge was to see if I could create a win every day, create enough internal energy to get done what I had challenged myself to do and not give in to the urge to abandon the challenge.  It turned out successfully when I completed the challenge today; the time went more quickly as I learned to enjoy each day, the opportunity to do more, and to feel stronger of mind and body.  The challenge now completed it leaves a indelible mark and a proof point that I can indeed do more, and then more….all I have to do is to put myself to the test and watch the results happen.
