Let’s avoid that…

We all know that there are some of us who are more inclined than others to take on big challenges, the seemingly improbable.  Maybe it is in our DNA, maybe it is from a set of experiences we have; it could be that some of us are just more inclined to take on risk or do things are just very hard.  What about the rest of us?  For sure it’s not about our willingness to put in the time and effort to make it happen.  Instead, it could be the story of doubt that gets planted in our  heads by others, which has a way of growing and becoming an obstacle to taking on that big challenge.  We know it when we hear it “that is quite dangerous”; “are you sure you can do that?”; “has anyone done that before?”; “why do you think you can do that….are you qualified?” and the list goes on.  The exact words are not relevant – it is the sentiment that is.  And as we think about it how do we feel when we hear those words?  We mostly don’t appreciate them.  Why are they questioning me?  Why can’t they support me and so on.

Our goal should be to be supportive of all who are on the THPL journey or want to be.  To remind ourselves that we are not here to judge nor dissuade others.  We are to be the best supporter ever, an enabler, excited for others when they tell us of their “big idea” and for sure to be there to offer help.  Imagine how much more our community would accomplish with each other’s support.  So, let’s avoid the negative views, opinions and advice.  Time to push positive.  We know positive works and we all appreciate hearing it, so let’s start a shift in thinking – the results will be extraordinary.
