All we have to do as we go along our THPL journey is to pick up our head and look around and we will see directly or indirectly amazing people beating records, doing more, and inspiring us to ditch the word can’t and go after whatever it is we want to do. We can set a personal best, we can go for a record, we can support someone as they set out to do their best. And while, every day, there is another example of amazing people doing remarkable things we each have our favorites, the ones that inspire us individually. Just this past week Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell set a new record summiting “The Nose”, a very difficult climbing route on El Capitan in Yosemite in just two hours ten minutes. The pattern of how to get the hard stuff done and records set is often the same – lots of practice. Honnold said, “a lot of familiarity with the route made the difference. Even though it doesn’t feel like we’re moving faster, we are. Every time we do a lap we are a little smoother. We are adapting to a new level of effort.” And therein lies the reason why we will continue to get better, why we can always do more than we think we can.
