This past weekend the Western States 100 was run from Squaw Valley to Auburn CA. Many of the top competitors in the ultra-running community were present to see who would win the coveted race. And the race proved to be everything and more with Jim Walmsley breaking his own course record and Clare Gallagher getting the second-best women’s time in history. And while the race was amazing for all of the reasons we would expect, and we can admire their great performances it is important for us to realize that we each have our own opportunity for amazing accomplishments. All we need to do is to set goals, stay true to our training plan, make no excuses and give it all we have, and we too will have inspired results. The good news is that it is all under our control and we can choose to be as great as we want to be. Jim and Clare made that choice and so should we!
