Hope Springs Eternal

In 1732, Alexander Pope wrote Hope Springs Eternal in his poem an “Essay on Man”.  And for centuries we have, either explicitly, or implicitly lived with the spirit in our hearts that people will keep on hoping, no matter what the odds. And it with this spirit that we have to take on Covid-19 and find a way to understand it, get comfortable living differently, get it under control, and then find a way to eradicate it.  We have, for all of history, taken control over our destiny, even when the odds seemed against us.  Warriors, revolutionaries, explorers, innovators, we are all of these and then some.  It is time to collectively pull together and take on this battle as our life depends on it.  Let’s give credence to Alexander’s prognostication because we know that human nature always finds a fresh cause for optimism and a path to a solution.

And if we are so motivated then take some time to read Pope’s poem – it is powerful and prescient and with all the time we have on our hands, not a bad way to spend some time
