Dog Days of Summer

Summer is in full swing and with heat waves spreading far and wide it would seem reasonable to think that we are in the Dog Days of Summer.  And then, a pause to think about what are the Dog Days?  Turns out that the Dog Days refer to the time of year when the brightest star in the sky, Sirius, also known as the “Dog Star” is visible at night in the Northern Hemisphere.  During the rest of the year, Sirius is below the horizon at night but in late July and August, it is visible.  Sirius is called the “Dog Star” because it’s the bright one in the constellation Canis Major, aka the “great dog”.  Seems that making a connection with the stars in the universe is a good thing.  So, let’s get outside, let’s lookup in the sky and lets’ enjoy what we see.  Not sure that there is a better way to end the day, inspired by the universe.
