The journey to the top of Mt. Everest is, on every level, the most challenging, difficult, and rewarding of just about any adventure that we could take on. In a normal year it is a logistical challenge and this year it has become even more difficult. In a place as remote as the tallest mountain in the world, the Coronavirus has found its way there. In normal places the virus is deadly, on Everest it is a nightmare. It’s hard to tell the symptoms of the virus from the altitude sickness that one can get in such conditions, but the altitude issues are not contagious and do not wreak the same kind of havoc that Covid does on the people at base camp. Medical care is difficult to administer, and evacuations are dangerous and costly. The teams who are there waiting to ascend the tallest mountain in the world now have this big challenge to deal with and the hardest of efforts have not even begun. It will be interesting, to say the least, to see how this plays out over the next few weeks. For now, we are reminded that the virus knows no boundaries and we hope that the climbers can remain healthy and get their attempt at the climbing to the top of the world
Loving life with hope for the best on Everest
