Pride Month

Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. 52 years later we have made some progress on treating the LGBTQ community as regular members of society with respect and all of the rights and privileges the rest of the community has.  Sadly, we have a long way to go as there are some who do not accept people who are different than they are.  This is disappointing, to say the least, and needs to change.  Everyone in our society has a right to love each other, to be able to make a lifetime commitment to another human, to grow old with someone if we so choose and to not have to defend or explain the choices that we make.  It is ours to choose freely how we live and we need to continue to press others to live and let live.  While we have 30 days to focus on this topic we need to have in our hearts and our heads a commitment to eradicating the need for a focus month.  We must get to equal and be happy for the beauty that will come from it.  Here’s to loving everyone!
