For three days, essentially 70 hours, I worked my way, with a teammate from the west coast of Florida to the east coast of Florida. The activity was part of an adventure race whereby participants trek, bike or paddle their way across the states, finding checkpoints and in so doing establishing a trail across the state. There was little sleep and a lot of effort put into completing the race with a lot of contrived and real challenges to keep the race interesting and suitably difficult. So many lessons to learn about self-reliance, team dynamics, situational awareness, listening to others, confidence in oneself, and what happens to us when we are sleep deprived over a number of days. It sometimes, takes efforts like this to experience life at a deeper level, to learn more about ourselves, and to step away from the “grid” for a bit of truly focused away time. All good, for sure – Sea to Sea, a true adventure race challenge.
Loving life when I run the Sea to Sea
