Mark Twain wrote that “Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn’t.” I dare say, that after the last few days of traipsing around Zion and Bryce canyon that Nature delivers on the same promise – that is, the colors we see, the formations, rocks, rivers, and how nature adapts and changes to fit the needs of the day is truly amazing. As we all learn, nature is not obliged to stick to the possibilities, it morphs, and evolves to climate, conditions and yes even to those “humans” who choose to take make do with what we have around us. If Nature followed traditional rules, had a fixed mindset, I am convinced that we would not be here today.
It is a nice analog for how to live because as members of THPL community we create a need to consistently set the bar higher and higher. This kind of behavior is natural and not fiction. What we learn is that it is not always about speed, but, rather about taking the time to do it right. With enough time and focus and follow through you can indeed create just about anything. And so as I depart this truly magnificent place on mother earth I am reflecting on what life is about and then I am able to feel its beauty and to embrace its power. And so it is for you to do the same, all you have to do is to be willing to get out of your seat and to chart your course so that you can see the earth’s canvas for THPL. Enjoy, it
