Superfoods

THPL requires that our bodies are in an optimal state for as much of our THPL journey as possible.  We know on our journey we are going to push hard, do a lot, stretch to the next level and give ourselves minimal time to recover.  We live for it and we like how it feels.  And, we also know that if we get eating “right” that we will be able to run the engine hotter and perform as best as we can.  And from personal and community experience we know that there are some proven food strategies that can keep us closer to this optimal state we call THPL.  One of these is the category of Superfoods – they are a special group of foods that are found in nature – so no, the Twinkie is not a Superfood.  Rather, they are usually characterized by the fact that they are calorie sparse, nutrient dense and from the ground.  There are lists (and even one below) but the easiest way to find them is to look for brightly colored fruits and vegetable and unprocessed  nuts, beans, seeds and aromatic and brightly colored herbs and spices.  Sounds like a lot of good stuff to eat or try.  And so how about a little THPL challenge.  I suggest that in our community we work to increase the number of Superfoods we eat in a week.  There will be no one watching but your THPL will tell all.  The proof of the Superfood is in the results it creates.  Here are some of my favorites, enjoy eating them – I certainly do!

  • Blueberries
  • Beans
  • Quinoa
  • Kale
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Sweet potato
  • Acai berry
  • Yogurt
  • Lentils
