I was once told that you know you are old when your dreams turn to regrets. The more I reflected on this perspective the more I realized that regrets are really not turning old but rather about giving up. “Regret – a profound desire to go back and change a past experience in which one has failed to choose consciously”. So I ask why go back? How about just going forward and using your failure as a learning experience? THPL is about high performance in Life, Learning and Fitness and to get to high performance you have to believe you can and then you go for it and you do so knowing that along the way you will have disappointment, struggle, difficulty, and fear – they are normal emotions when you are stretching yourself to be better. In fact if none of these emotions show themselves then you most likely have not pushed hard enough to take yourself to the next level.
Yes, we know that we are not supposed to hide from reality; we know that we do not always have to feel great but this is not the reason why to go down a path of regret – rather embrace the emotion and use it to push yourself to do better. And then when the going gets tough and you just want to quit and you are convinced you cannot do it then challenge yourself to remember that great feeling you have had before which allows you to turn off the regret emotion before it happens.
Think of it this way, all you have to do is to push just one more inch, read just one more page, say hello to just one more person….. it puts you on the path of dreams, not regrets, it makes all the difference in the world because from this effort you develop the inner strength to win; and from it momentum will build and dreams will become the way they are supposed to be.
Loving life with no regrets
