“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”. Aristotle had it right. Thousands of years ago he was able to bring clarity to ways of thinking that are maybe even more relevant today. What indeed is learning when there is no spirit attached to it? I am not a neuro-scientist but I will assert, strongly, that when you are excited about learning you learn more deeply. And this matters to us because learning is foundational on our THPL journey. There is no way to improve without learning, and doing it continuously, over time. We all love to learn – we just need to make it happen more often and we need to do it with a fervor for learning that replicates the energy at a Gospel Sunday mass. Have you ever noticed what it feels like when smart people are energized, it is infectious and accretive. So, then, we need to inculcate learning into our daily routine. We need to do whatever it takes to become lifetime learners and here are a few habits worth forming, on this pathway.
- Be curious, challenge yourself to learn one new thing a day.
- Hang out with smart people – being in a crowd like this just makes it easier.
- Dedicate time to learning – just make the time – what’s one hour a day?
- Commit to being a life time learner
- Embrace learning on every level and communicate its value to everyone and anyone who will listen
Loving life, when we have become lifetime learners.
