THPL was happy today – 50,000 people showed up at the Verrazano Narrows Bridge to run 26.2 miles through the five boroughs of NY. 10,000 volunteers, one million plus spectators, and an amazing course that traverses neighborhoods, stunning skylines, and a NYC vibe that makes this race as unique as any I have had the pleasure to run in. And like every marathon, the race is a tale of many feelings and moments. Started great – fast and fun, ahead of pace by the half way mark. Then the work started and the race began. A few struggles that tested my focus and one again showed me that the marathon distance is long enough to take you through, highs and lows, and fun and challenge. When you complete a marathon, you are happy it is over – and within enough time – it is not so hard that you don’t want to do one again. I think this is marathon number 22 for me. I did qualify for NY next year with a 3:22 finishing time, age helps with these things….. As for what is next – who knows, what I do know is that the THPL experience continues to challenge me to go out and do hard things. And the marathon is one of them – I am better for having had the struggles and looking forward to using the power that gets me through the marathon to all aspects of THPL. Yes, we get power and strength from days like today. I am smiling all the way to the airport……which will be tomorrow’s blog post.
Loving life, having completed the NYC marathon.
