The normal advice that we get when we start down the path of doing something hard or challenging is “step away from the ledge”. I dare say that this is logical advice but also self-limiting. If we are to improve then we need to do stretch further, push the envelope, in fact we need to step over the ledge and keep moving forward. For if we are not to stretch, to improve, to try new then what are we to become? Just what we are today? That is really not good enough. THPL is a metaphor for what we want – human nature is such that it needs us to grow, to take advantage of our inherent potential and to succeed because we try to do more. There is an explorer in all of us, we just need to find a way to get to it. So, here are a few techniques that you can use so that you will indeed step over the ledge.
· If you find yourself saying no – ask yourself why?
· Do I have a legitimate concern or is my inaction a result of an excuse.
· If I am still hesitant then I should find someone to take on the challenge with; and,
· Remind yourself that trying and failing is way more rewarding than never trying at all.
You can add to the list and then find an opportunity where you need to challenge yourself and go for it. I am confident you will find it to be a rewarding and satisfying experience.
Loving life when I step over the edge.
