Today I was in Sydney for a normal workday, and in the course of a series of meetings I met a fellow athlete who is a strong cyclist, an Ironman finisher and an overall “cross-fit” oriented kind of guy. We got to talking about interesting exercise challenges and after introducing him to “Sally” for a pushup challenge he told me of another fun challenge. The challenge is to do the following (see below) for as many circuits as possible in 20 minutes. Kristen told me that the goal is to do one circuit (of the three exercises) every minute, with the goal of completing twenty circuits. The challenge was to do :
· 5 pull-ups
· 10 pushups
· 15 squats
And so I set my timer and went at it. The early go, in any of these challenges, is usually tolerable. And then over time the fatigue sets in and the time grows short. Today I did not have such a problem and in-spite of my morning workout I was able to put in a serious effort with the challenge. By the time the timer read 19:54 minutes, I had completed 24 circuits (sets) through the routine. I felt good enough to run two miles afterwards and I realized that I had a truly great THPL fitness day.
How about giving the challenge a go? It matters none how many you circuits you finish…what matters is that you give it a try.
Loving life when doing a fitness challenge
