The last few days of my three week around the world trip are upon me, one more day with clients (Wednesday in Melbourne) and then back Sydney and the States on Thursday (the 24 hour trip). One more set of presentations, of being on stage, of being “on my game” and I stopped for a moment to remind myself that it is really important to finish strong, on a high note. The number of miles, locations, conversations, inconveniences, and the like all are to be considered irrelevant so that I can tell my work “story” yet a few more times with the same level of enthusiasm, passion, and love that I have done every other time. No excuses, just go and execute like a “pro” would.
And isn’t this the metaphor for THPL and our own journey towards high performance. We can hit long stretches where we need to keep our energy level high, where we have to ignore the pull to be average and where we have to stay focused on the journey and its purpose. It takes an explicit action to ensure this comes through, that we do execute, and that we hold ourselves accountable to our commitments. Being gone for a long time would be a likely excuse with too many days and too many miles. In fact with the right point of view the journey can become a strength - all you have to do is to turn it around and realize that you have had more chances to practice, that you have had more opportunities to get better and that this is now a natural for you. The mindset shift to finishing strong makes sure you get done what you set out to do and to do it at the top of your game.
Loving life when finishing strong
