Fitness Community

Like many of our THPL community members I look around me for ideas, inspiration, information, patterns, all to help inform my THPL journey.  There is rarely a day that goes by when I do not add some kind of learning to my locker of knowledge and some of it causes me to pause and consider the implications for THPL and our community.  While this “find” is about a month old it has some interesting implications and in case it went unnoticed I pass it along for purposes of knowledge sharing and also instigation of thought.  Under Armour, in early February 2015, acquired Endomondo and MyFitnessPal, establishing ownership of the world’s largest digital health and fitness community.  So when you add these acquisitions to UA’s existing MapMyFitness suite of applications, they have 120 million users in their community.  This is a very interesting mashup of fitness apparel and fitness community.  I like the way they talk about the Connected Fitness experience.   The passion that UA brought to fitness clothing being brought to training and day to day living seems to be just what this market needs

Their stated goal is to help its customers and members to maintain health and fitness goals, provide them with nutritional information and provide hundreds of exercises, to improve fitness and overall health.  I sort of wonder if Under Armour’s expertise and passion in the apparel and now fitness and nutrition space will be a model for companies going forward.  Either way it is nice to see the positive momentum being built for all elements of fitness and wellness.  We can all benefit from this kind of mashup.
