I am not sure of the numbers of THPL community members that are vegetarian. But since I am one, and I often get the question, so where do you get your protein, I thought I would share a few bits of data – yes, as a vegetarian I do eat eggs and milk products. And there are some good protein sources – egg whites are 17 calories and 3.6 g protein – so if you had ten egg whites it would be 170 c and 36 g of protein. You could have plain Greek yogurt – 100 calories =18 grams of protein and so for a similar 36g of protein you would need to eat 200 calories. To compare to chicken 36g of protein would be 140 calories. Tofu would be about 280 calories for 36 g or protein. So, while the vegetarian choices don’t match up to the protein power of chicken they can compare favorably to many of the meat based protein options. And if you marry up beans and nuts and other plant based protein into your diet, you can, for sure, get enough protein on a daily basis.
