Food as culture

THPL is one day from heading back to the US and it is not without some level of sadness that one leaves a country as beautiful and friendly as Thailand.  And while a week in a country is substantive, there is always more time that can be spent getting to know the location, the ways, the culture.  There is no easier way to get to know a country, different from where we are used to, than through the food, how it is served, what it tastes like.  The food profile is truly a view into the essence of the culture and the people.  And for as many times as one might eat the exported version of the food there is nothing quite like the local cuisine, cooked from the fresh and local ingredients, with flavors and textures that just say “local”.  It is with this feeling that we need to guide how we take to our trips.  We need to immerse ourselves, try new things, allow the locals to choose, to experience what it is like to eat true Thai food.  In so doing we get closer to the people for seeing how they eat, sharing in what they find tasty, and seeing what is different from what we are used to.  As I depart I see Thailand differently, I feel it more, I appreciate it, and I recommend it to all who can get to this part of the world.  Great people, great food, great location.  A better place we should search for..

Loving life when experience the culture through food
