Much of what we focus on during our THPL journey is about the individual, staying focused, staying true to our plan, maximizing our individual progress and much more. We also know that we can learn from others – usually people like ourselves. And all of this is great and gives us the potential to do big things. There are other ways, though, for us to learn and grow and to use examples from other “ways” to inform us how to get better results. A simple example comes from team sports; there seems to be many times that a team gets a lead in a game, seems to have the win in hand, and before we know it they have lost the lead and lost the game. What happened? Isn’t being in front a good indicator of being able to win. And with a little bit of reflection what we realize is that a big factor in winning is about the effort put to the game, to the plan and to the end. And when we get a lead we often take a bit off our intensity, we push less hard, and we start to coast to the finish. By doing this we give the other team the opportunity to push back, to take the momentum away, and drive to win. It is seen again and again what got us to the lead goes away and we do not finish strong guaranteeing the win. On our own journey the same principle applies, we have to stay vigilant, focused and obsessed with keeping the intensity high and the drive to completion (and our win) of paramount importance. It is a simple lesson, one that we and all teams can learn from and use to get what we want – the best performance that we can get comes when we push hard and drive to the finish.
