Twenty-one stages

Tomorrow the Tour de France starts.  The iconic cycling event and race the world has known for over 100 years.  Every July, and for 21 days, the best cyclists in the world ride long distances, at speeds that are incredible, pushing their bodies and their minds to the limit.  It is a spectacle on so many levels and at such a high level of performance that it makes us pause and wonder how these riders can ride so fast and hard for so long.  We sort of know the answer, practice, practice, practice.  And so we find ourselves with a bit of curiosity for what will happen; with an interest in the human drama and the athletic competition, the crashes, the challenges, the successes and the failure.  A captivating event, for sure, that transcends all logic and reason and at the same time pulls us in and closer to such a remarkable event.  So, let’s see if we can spend a moment appreciating what the riders are going through and use the moment to remind ourselves that the improbable becomes possible when you dream, plan, practice and do.  Indeed it does.

Loving life when I am watching the Tour de France……
