Save the Amazon

For most of us our journey we find ourselves far away from the Amazon and yet, it is hard to overstate how impactful what happens there is on the climate and the earth.   The Amazon is the world’s largest rainforest: its trees scrub the Earth of a significant amount of CO2 and it provides 20% of the earth’s oxygen. If we lose the trees, a lot of greenhouse gases get released and it becomes harder to capture emissions from other sources. Continued fires and clear-cutting in the Amazon could cripple the fight against climate change.  Today, the Amazon rainforest is on fire at its highest level in memory and we have to do something about it as it is a man-made catastrophe. It is a fundamental threat to progress against climate change — and thus the entirety of the human race.   We can get involved, even if it is remotely and in a little way by leveraging groups who are focused on helping to mitigate this very dire circumstance.  For example

·       Amazon Conservation Association accepts donations and lists exactly what your money goes toward –– whether it's planting trees, sponsoring education, buying a solar panel and preserving indigenous lands.

·       Rainforest Trust helps buy land in the rainforest. The organization has saved over 23 million acres since 1988.

The time is now to get involved. Let’s put a real effort into helping natural resources like the Amazon thrive for a long time to come. It is what we are here to do….indeed.
