There is an anxious feeling the night before a race that, no matter how often we race, nags us. We follow our normal prep, get our gear in place, nutrition ready to go and race packet picked up and yet that bit of apprehension. Summertime races bring the nerves down as it is not freezing cold when we start, and we are thankful for that. We know that all we must do is to get to the start line, and we can get through it. The national anthem, then a countdown and we are off – those first few steps, turn of the pedals, strokes in the water, they all calm us, and we get back that thought in our head, we know how to do this – we are ready to go and happy to be here. And so it is, another race in the books and a great feeling for having worked through the pre-race jitters…..maybe next time it won’t happen…right?
Loving life when I do a summer race
