I have a Dream

On the third Monday in January, we celebrate Martin Luther King who played a pivotal role in the civil rights and social justice movements in the US in the 1950’s and 1960’s.  And to this day, sadly, we still struggle to reach the goals that he outlined for all of us in his "I Have a Dream" speech given during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. In the speech, King called for widespread civil and economic rights and an end to racism in the United States.  A seemingly thoughtful and heartfelt request and yet we seem incapable of treating others as equals or caring for each other.  Doing good for our community regardless of race, creed, color or other should be the norm.  And it seems that we should one day wake up and be able to fix the injustice that we have lived with for way too long.  And while hope springs eternal it will truly be up to each of us to make a choice for freedom and equality for all – it is in our power to do so, let’s not let another 58 years go by before we do something about what just needs fixing.

Loving life when we get to a day of equity, inclusivity, fairness, and respect
