We all have come across a donkey at some time in our life and we mostly think of a donkey as stubborn and aloof. And with a little effort, we can leave it there and believe it to be true. But is it true? Are we really understanding why the donkey might appear stubborn? Could it be that they are evaluating a situation and deciding that it is not safe, or what we want is not what they want (or is even good for them). There are many more donkey misconceptions that could be instructive more broadly for how with think about other people. Maybe before we judge them, we should seek to understand. Maybe what we see is not what is going on below the surface. Maybe we should take the time to learn, relate, and support all people who we do not have a good sense of why they are behaving the way they do. It probably is the way to start, with understanding and compassion and the beginnings of a way to do what we do….better
