We know that mastery in one’s discipline requires the ability to perform at a very high level. And that to get to this level takes incredible amounts of practice and repetition and time. It also takes patience and a love for what you do. Lastly, it can require recovering from injury and then being able to get back to top form. A daunting set of steps to get there. But in the past few days I noticed that a few of the “greats” got it together yet again and showed that you can live the THPL life for a long time and you can do it at the top of your game. You just have to stick with the program, avoid getting bored, and put the same energy that you did when you started. When this happens you know you the outcomes will be good. Just look what it did for Lindsey Vonn, US female skier who just won her seventh World Cup title. Knee injuries and lots of issues could not spoil her opportunity to dominate again and again. Dallas Seavy just won his third Iditarod sled dog challenge. He has now won and survived in some of the harshest conditions that any race can be run in. Winning once is amazing (and enough) but to go back three times and win again and again show that Dallas has more patience than most and an understanding of how to win. There are many, many more stories like this one. What we need to do is to figure out, in our own lives, how we can do the same as these great performers have done and that is to deliver over and over again at a very high level. What better goal could there be?
Loving life when winning again and again.
