The common good

There are concepts that we have lived by for many years, many of which are embedded in the fabric of who we are as a people and a society.  They are implicit and rarely part of our daily dialogue yet they have a big impact.  The common good, which refers to that which benefits society as a whole, is one of these concepts.  It is essential to a high functioning society as it maintains a balance in areas that we all need like infrastructure, utility, defense, and more.  It contemplates that as a group we can all benefit when we work together.  It is central to the harmony of classes of people as it allows for all of us to participate even if it is at different levels.  For all of our benefit, it is important to hold to this principle and to exercise support, constraint, sharing, and cooperation.  We can always do better and yet we need to start with a strong foundation.  It will serve us well and the common good is indeed good for all.

Loving life even when we support the common good.
